Fitness And Nutrition For Health

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

In the age which we live there is an unprecedented focus on getting and staying healthy. As more and more research points to the effect of fitness and nutrition on our overall health, the findings become more difficult to ignore. There is no doubt that the food that we eat and the physical activity that we perform significantly impact our weight and our body’s overall health and longevity.

When you look at fitness and nutrition and the consequences of ignoring their importance, it is not difficult to see how large a role they play in our health. First and foremost, it is important to understand how powerfully diet can affect us. Natural, whole foods – such as fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins – give our bodies the vitamins that it needs to function effectively. We have energy when we eat right. And when we have energy we burn fat. Eating properly allows us to maintain a healthy weight and keep undue stress off of our hearts; it also allows us to keep our blood pressure and cholesterol levels in the healthy range. Most importantly, good nutrition keeps our bodies stocked with antioxidants that fight off a range of illnesses including cancer.

But nutrition does go it alone; fitness and nutrition go hand in hand for achieving good health. When we keep our bodies active through a consistent exercise program, we are adding to our body’s ability to metabolize food and keep weight down. Further, good fitness means strong and limber muscles and a strong cardiovascular system. Exercise also lowers blood pressure and reduces stress levels.

Learning how to pair fitness and nutrition for optimum health means a commitment to a particular lifestyle. It is essential that you revamp your diet to eliminate fatty, high-sodium, and processed food and replace it with fresh, natural – and even organic – choices. But remember, fitness and nutrition work best as a team. Implement a consistent regime of physical activity into your daily schedule including cardiovascular work, stretching, weight training, and even yoga or Pilates.

When you truly understand the importance of fitness and nutrition in your life, you will understand how crucial these lifestyle changes are in order to live a long and healthy life.

Always Tired – It Could Be Iron-Deficient Anemia

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

The most common complaint I hear is that people always feel tired. In fact, most people seem to think feeling tired all the time is just a normal part of modern life. Fortunately, this isn’t so.

There are many causes of chronic tiredness. Sometimes it’s obvious, like not getting enough sleep, but other times it can be due to an underlying health issue. Chronic tiredness can be a frustrating condition. There usually isn’t a simple solution to it and any medical tests are likely to come back ‘normal’.

In this article I’m going to explore iron-deficient anemia, how it can cause chronic tiredness and who is most at risk.

Other symptoms of iron-deficient anemia include:

You feel particularly tired after exercising

You may have a malabsorption problem (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease) which can cause internal bleeding and anemia

You are more prone to catching colds, infections and the flu

You may often feel cold and look pale or generally unwell

Anemia occurs when your blood doesn’t have enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin helps red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to all parts of your body.
Iron deficient anemia is the most common type of anemia. It happens when you don’t have enough iron in your body. You need iron to make hemoglobin.

It’s possible to be iron deficient without having anemia. Iron deficiency develops gradually and occurs when the dietary iron intake does not meet the daily need for iron. Initially the storage form of iron becomes depleted, while the blood hemoglobin level (a marker of iron status) remains normal. People who are iron deficient have no iron stores to mobilize if the body requires more iron.

How does iron deficiency progress to iron deficient anemia? Iron deficiency anemia is an advanced stage of iron depletion. It occurs when storage sites of iron are deficient and blood levels of iron cannot meet daily needs. Blood hemoglobin levels are now below normal.

Who is most at risk for iron deficiency and iron-deficient anemia?
Women of childbearing age. This is due to 2 main reasons. Firstly, they loose blood each month with menstruation. Secondly, they are the group most likely to diet and unfortunately protein and meat are commonly reduced in the erroneous belief that they are fattening.

Pregnant women – the growing baby uses the mother’s iron stores.

Infants and toddlers – especially if they are fussy eaters

Athletes – due to the increased needs for oxygen.

People who lose abnormal amounts of blood (heavy menstruation, people with gastro-intestinal bleeding)

People with kidney disease – people with kidney failure, especially those being treated with dialysis, are at high risk for developing iron deficiency anemia because their kidneys cannot create enough erythropoietin, a hormone needed to make red blood cells. Both iron and erythropoietin can be lost during kidney dialysis.

People who have a low intake of dietary iron (fussy eaters, vegetarians)

People with malabsorption and digestive problems who can’t absorb the iron that they eat. Most iron is absorbed in the small intestines. Gastrointestinal disorders that result in inflammation of the small intestine may result in diarrhea, poor absorption of dietary iron and iron depletion.

People who have deficiencies of vitamin A. This nutrient helps mobilize iron from its storage sites, so a deficiency of vitamin A limits the body’s ability to use stored iron. This results in an “apparent” iron deficiency because hemoglobin levels are low even though the body can maintain normal amounts of stored iron.

Florida DUI

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Like most states, there is a DUI law in Florida. DUI stands for “driving under the influence of alcohol.” Getting arrested and charged with a dui is a criminal offense, because you are not only endangering yourself but those with or around you.

When the alcohol percentage in human blood is 0.08% or higher, the person may be booked under DUI in Florida. It is important to remember that DUI laws vary from state to state in their severity, and some states may have a law that is a bit more relaxed than others. However, all states are unanimous in their views that driving while drunk is a crime that can end or destroy a lot of lives, and there must be steps to curb it.

When a person is arrested on DUI charges in Florida, he has approximately ten days to ask for a hearing with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle (FDHSMV) to protect his license from being confiscated permanently. If the person fails to request such a hearing, it may lead to a six-month jail term that could drag on for 18 months.

Punishments in Florida DUI arrests are varied with far-reaching consequences. There are fines that start at a $250 but could shoot up to $2000 or beyond, depending on the nature of the damage done and the number of times the person has been caught committing the same offense. There are severe jail terms too that a person might have to face. These jail terms could be between six months to five years. Community service, with alcohol education classes is also a mandatory requirement.

If you are arrested in Florida for a DUI, it is extremely important to get in touch with an expert DUI attorney without delay. Other than retaining a good lawyer, visiting highly informative websites that talk about Florida DUI are a big help. However, it is always advisable to drive in a sober state so that such unfortunate incidents can easily be avoided.

Biofeedback Therapy For Cancer

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

There have been claims (by unscrupulous creeps) that by learning biofeedback therapy, cancer patients can slow or stop the progression of cancer. These claims are fraudulent and, in my not-so-humble-opinion, cruel. The idea of placing the cause for the progression of cancer on the shoulders of the patient amounts to mental and emotional torture.

The truth is, however, that biofeedback therapy can be a very good complimentary therapy for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery. Biofeedback cannot stop cancer. It can’t cure cancer, either, but it can provide a cancer patient
with the ability to reduce his stress, muscle tension, and pain.

The principle of biofeedback therapy is technicians using monitoring devices to provide information about physical processes (blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, etc.), that are hard to detect without help and then giving (feeding back) this information in the form of a continuous signal like a sound or an image to the patient. The idea is that the patient can adjust his or her thinking, emotional state, or other mental processes for the purpose of controlling bodily functions and can see what works by changes in the signal being provided.

A biofeedback therapist provides guidance as the patient concentrates on changing a specific physical process, such as heart rate, temperature, perspiration, blood flow, brain activity, or muscle tension. When a patient learns how to control these normally automatically controlled functions, he or she can learn how to control pain, stress, and tension.

Biofeedback will NOT cure cancer, and it will not stop or slow the growth of tumors. But it can help to provide a better quality of life for cancer patients while they are going through the treatments that do have the potential to cure the cancer.

What is Arthritis Gout?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Arthritis gout is one of the most painful forms of rheumatic arthritis that one can experience in the aging process. It is characterized by small crystal-like formations that appear in the joints. The knees and feet are most commonly affected, especially the big toe. These crystal formations are produced by excess levels of uric acid. Common symptoms of this condition include swelling, redness, heat, pain, and stiffness. It is believed that gout accounts for about five percent of all cases of arthritis. Gout will usually begin in the big toe for most people, but it can spread to other joints if it is not treated properly. There are also various types and stages of gout that one needs to be aware of.

Types Of Arthritis Gout

There are two basic types of arthritis gout. The first one is called primary hyperuricemia. In this case, the excess buildup of uric acid is due to hereditary abnormalities in the kidneys. If the kidneys are not functioning properly, they are not able to rid the body of uric acid. This, in turn, is what causes gout to develop in the joints.

The second type of arthritis gout is called secondary hyperuricemia. This type of gout is the most common among most sufferers. This form of the disease is caused by some external factor, such as reaction to medication, alcohol consumption, or diet. Foods that are high in purines are usually responsible for this type of gout. The purines are broken down into uric acid which, as we know, causes the condition. Consuming excess quantities of these types of foods will produce more uric acid than the kidneys can get rid of.

Stages Of Gout

The first stage of gout is called asymptomatic hyperuricemia. In this stage, a person’s uric acid levels will be elevated, but they will have no other symptoms. In this stage, there is usually no treatment required, but the potential to develop an attack of gout is present.

Acute gout is the next stage of this condition. It is also referred to as gouty arthritis. This stage is what most people think of when they think of gout. The uric acid crystals have formed around the joint at this point. This is when the pain, swelling, and redness appears. Usually these attacks will last anywhere from one to two weeks before they subside. Often, they will go away on their own with no treatment, but eventually they will come back. Each time they do come back, there is the potential for them to increase in severity.

The most severe stage of arthritis gout is called chronic tophaceous gout. This condition usually develops after about ten years of repeated attacks. By this time, there is permanent damage to the affected joints. There may even be damage to the kidneys during this stage. One will usually only progress to this stage if they have left their gout go untreated for many years.

My Cancer Has Come Back – Help, What Will I Do Now?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

It’s only been a few months since your cancer treatment and you’ve now been told your cancer has returned, but it’s in a different location. What has gone wrong and what are you going to do now?

Firstly, there are several problems with our orthodox cancer treatments. The main one being they have only treated the symptom of a problem, which is the cancer growth, not the cause of the problem which is the reason why the cancer first grew. This is why the cancer has just kept on growing, but now in some other part of the body. This is called secondary cancer and unfortunately it is far more serious than primary cancer.

Our treatments nowadays only focus on the cancer growths and never address the underlying cause or the reason why the cancer first grew. Most doctors, when asked, will say they don’t know the reason why a person gets cancer so they can’t offer any advice on why it first grew or even why it came back. With our orthodox treatment of cancer you will most likely be offered more treatment, similar to the first but this time in a stronger dose.

With time running out you begin to look at other ways to solve your problem and consider trying natural treatments that will be effective for your type of cancer. What you need, to rid cancer permanently is the 7 necessities of life and they are; fresh air, sunshine, clean water, exercise, rest, clean raw fruit and vegetables for food, and hopefully a happy heart. What you don’t need is more of the treatments you’ve just had which only shrunk some of the cancer, suppressed your immune system and didn’t cure you.

Here are a few common sense examples that have revealed some obvious facts.

Firstly and most importantly, our natural food for human beings is freshly grown fruit and vegetables, which contain well known anti-cancer properties called photo nutrients. You don’t need to spend millions of dollars on research to prove that.

Secondly, there is refined sugar, in which research over 70 years ago discovered is the natural fuel for cancer cells. Our diets today are laden with sugar and if you haven’t removed it from your diet since being diagnosed with cancer, then it’s no surprise your cancer has returned.

Thirdly, there are toxic chemicals which we use every day, they are mainly extracted from crude oil and have unfortunately become a big part of our daily life. We are affected by them in many ways; we breathe them in as exhaust gases, apply them to our skin as personal care products and ingest them as food additives. Do you understand the ingredients on a many of our food labels? The latest information says there are over 70,000 different synthetic chemicals and when some of these are applied to our skin it is the perfect delivery system into our blood stream. Many of these cheap chemicals do cause us harm.

And lastly, let’s not forget exercise. Our bodies were built to be physically active, however our modern way of living with labour saving devices such as cars, TV’s and

Arthritis Treatment and Arthritis Relief

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

On a trip to my local chemist for a certain type of hair shampoo I was amazed at how many different types of creams and cures there are available to the average person to actually buy over the counter for Arthritis relief, which made me think that there are probably many more are available on prescription as well. Looking it up on the Internet there are millions of websites and some that tell you about the so called wonder drugs that Doctor’s can prescribe and on reading more it’s plain to see that like other medicines of this type some of them do have chronic side affects and do not actually cure the disease.

I guess at this point when a Doctor sees a patient who is suffering with Arthritis its so easy to write out a prescription so that the patient will have some form of pain relief that will help them to a somewhat normal life. But knowing how bad Arthritis pain can be is this truly enough and are we being fobbed off to simply get us out of the surgery so that the Doctor can then see the next patient so that his money keeps rolling in.

For those of you that have read different articles I have produced you will know that I think that in general the Medical profession does a great job and that some of the life saving operations that go on every day are a credit to their systems. Yet on reading different accounts from patients that are currently taking Arthritis treatments from their Doctor’s it does make me think that perhaps not enough is being done. At this point I do know that money tends to rule most businesses and I’m sure that the major drug companies plough incredible amounts of money into research and without it many of these life saving operations would not go ahead.

Perhaps I may be wrong here and how I always look for the easy way out and perhaps that alternative cures are that easy way out yet when you read of people being cured in the comfort of their own homes so why do the Doctor’s not use this option to get their credibility up even higher?

What You Should Do If You Think You Have Cancer

What You Should Know About Skin and Other Cancers

There are three main types of skin cancer.

First of all I will go through the different types of Skin Cancer, starting off with the most serious type.

Melanoma, this is a very dangerous type of cancer and many thousands die from this every year throughout the world.

Usually it is caused through sunburn in the earlier years of our lives, it can develop very quickly once it starts and can easily spread to other parts of the body.
A melanoma, if left untreated for too long can be fatal, so it is in your best interest to seek medical help as soon as you can.

It can appear as a new spot on your skin, or as an existing blemish that changes appearance, a mole or freckle that changes shape or color. Regularly check your skin for any changes, don’t spend too long in the sun, wear special block out cream to prevent burning, if you live in an area of the world that gets a lot of sunshine, you should have a skin inspection every year by a medical practitioner.

Basal Cell Carcinoma, is the most common type of skin cancer, it can be scaly flaky skin, or can be red or pale in color, or a lump, usually on the arms, hands, or face, even though this kind is the least serious, it is important to have them treated.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma, these are quite serious, as they can also spread to other parts of the body, like Melanoma, they usually have to be excised, which is not very pleasant, quite often they are on the face, ears, hands, arms, anywhere that has been exposed to the sun, once again, it is imperative that medical help is sought as soon as you can.

There are dozens of different types of Other Cancers, but there are two main groups. Sarcomas which come from connective tissue, bone, muscle, cartilage etc. and Carcinomas, which originate from the epithelial cells, which are the linings of your body, either internal or external.

It is important that you watch out for sores that will not heal.
Change in freckles, spots, moles, or warts.
Abnormal discharge, or even bleeding.
A lump anywhere in the body.
Unaccountable weight loss.
A cough or hoarseness.
Any change in you bowel or bladder habits, ie. bleeding.

Today a huge percentage of cancers can be cured, using modern medicine and the experts treatment, however with all cancers, it is so important that you seek help as early as possible, the longer it is left, the more difficult it becomes to cure. It is far better to pay the cost of a visit to your doctor, and then find out you are OK, than finding out too late, that there is nothing that can be done for you.

The next important fact is prevention, I am not saying that all cancers can be prevented, but this is very important, try to include as many of the healthy vegetables and fruit in your diet, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach, Carrots, Garlic, Onions, Brussels Sprouts, Apples, Pears, Oranges, all these type of foods help to flush out the toxins from your body, drink plenty of water. I know that you have heard it all before, but it is so important, if you would like to see old age.

Cancer is one of the most terrible diseases to have, anything that can be done to cure or prevent this disease, should be the most important item on your list of priorities.

Cold & Flu & Sambucol

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

As we know that cold & flu is the most common illness in the whole world, bacterial viruses is the main reason for cold & flu, runny nose, sneezing, headache, sore throat, cough, nasal and sinus blockage are the common symptoms for cold & flu.

Usually cold often starts with feeling tired and we do not go to doctor for cold & flu treatment, we almost know that everything which doctor can prescribe for treatment. The flu starts suddenly and hits hard and the symptoms are worse like shaking chills, profuse sweating, muscle ache, vomiting and high fever it is necessary for us to go to doctor immediately. Over 100 different viruses can cause colds. Many people use antibiotics for cold and flu treatment, but antibiotic won’t prevent bacterial infections developing from cold.

Some prescription medicines can relieve flu symptoms. Since I am a student of medicine I prefer Sambucol because it is the best products for cold & Flu based on natural. This product has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms and duration of cold & flu. The efficiency of Sambucol
has been shown through clinical studies. Since they are 100% natural the products are perfectly suitable for all members of the family.

Apart of using medicine you must take prevention measure to avoid cold and flu, wash your hand frequently and properly, avoid to touch your nose and eyes, keep your own towel do not share and more importantly use gloves in winter particularly in public places specially in public transport. That type of care makes you far from illness.
